ISEG Junior Business Consulting: From the Classroom to the Job Market
There is a moment, brief and almost imperceptible, when a room full of students ceases to be just another classroom and becomes something more. It is not the silence that precedes the presentation, nor the scattered murmur of hurried conversations. Rather, it is a kind of subtle tension, an energy that permeates the air and signals that there, at that very moment, an idea is taking shape that goes beyond a mere academic exercise.
At ISEG Junior Business Consulting, we take pleasure in seeing these very ideas come to life, the satisfaction of developing them, and the pride of seeing them applied to real-world problems.
It is also true that, before any project begins to take shape, there is always a less visible starting point, a sense of unease. An impulse that leads those who pass through here to reject the comfort of dogmatic answers and to seek, on their own initiative, that which has not yet been fully understood. It is in this space, between doubt and ambition, that our work gains its true value.
Throughout our 19-year history, ISEG JBC has established itself as a place of learning that complements our academic journeys. Every project, every challenge and every moment of collective work contributes to a process that is rarely linear, but which is, inevitably, transformative and rewarding.
It is from this dynamic that the JBC Case Competition naturally emerges.
More than just an event, it represents the embodiment of everything we seek to cultivate on a daily basis. A space where mistakes are not dismissed, but explored. Where each participant is challenged to go beyond what they initially thought they were capable of achieving.
For those unfamiliar with this opportunity, the JBC Case Competition is a hackathon-style competition in which participants are challenged to develop a solution to a problem presented to them in just 24 hours. In this year’s edition, this challenge takes on a particularly relevant dimension.
On 17, 18 and 19 April, the municipality of Oeiras will host the second edition of this initiative, bringing together students from different fields and backgrounds in a shared endeavour: to present solutions to real-world challenges currently facing the municipality. This year’s focus is on the sports sector and the promotion of more active lifestyles. A topic which, whilst seemingly simple, reveals a complexity that only becomes apparent when it is truly analysed.
The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as recent graduates who completed their studies less than a year ago, from a variety of academic disciplines.
The three teams presenting the most impactful and feasible solutions will be awarded prizes of up to €5,000 per team.
The event will take place at Sebastião e Silva Secondary School in Oeiras and aims to bring the academic community closer to the strategic challenges faced by the municipality and local public policies.
